We are looking to recruit – at the earliest opportunity – a Research Associate Genomics for our Cereals Breeding Technology Team on a fixed-term contract until June 2021

 

Your tasks:

  • Under the direction of the project lead, be responsible for the application of genomic technologies into target crops (wheat, barley, and sugar beet).
  • Plan and execute field and glasshouse experiments; analyze, interpret, and disseminate results.
  • Provide scientific support to collaborative projects and translate results into an applied crop breeding situation.
  • Generation and handling of large genotype data sets, creating genetic maps using software tools.
  • Provide project management support.

 

Your profile

  • Doctoral degree (or equivalent experience) in plant or animal science with a focus on breeding and genetics.
  • Experience of working on plant meiosis and cytology an advantage.
  • A passion for using complex experimental data to address biological questions.
  • Experience of analyzing large data-sets in term of statistics and related software packages (including software for genetic mapping).
  • An understanding of quantitative genetics and crop breeding strategies is an advantage.
  • Excellent communication and team skills, including dialogue with stakeholders and breeders.
  • Ability to travel often (mainly UK and Europe) including overnight stays.

 

This position can be located at our headquarters in Einbeck (Germany) or at our UK breeding center in near Cambridge depending on the candidate.

Full or part time positions considered.
