Do you want to play an important role in changing the current seed potato system? Aardevo B.V. is a diploid hybrid potato company committed to developing processing grade hybrid potatoes. This role will be central in forming the way in which hybrid potatoes are produced on a commercial and breeding scale. You will have a crucial role in forming ideas, making partnerships with industry and academic partners, and following through with experiments that further our understanding.  

 

What are you going to do?

 

In this role you will become an expert on True Potato Seed (TPS), shape strategy, and lead projects related to TPS based propagation. This includes topics related to germination, establishment in the field, and crop management. Further topics include identifying and understanding traits that would be important for a seed potato production system based on TPS. As a member of a team of agronomists, you will be working with people that have a passion for potatoes, science, and entrepreneurship. You will have the opportunity to attend industry and research events to further your understanding and connection with the potato industry.

 

This role will be responsible for increasing research efforts around TPS cultivation. This includes trial design, organization, interpretation, and reporting. You will be integral to protocol development, improvement, and management as the agronomy team translates research results to actionable recommendations. This role is important for developing informative conclusions from trials on this exciting new crop.

 

Profile:

 

You are enthusiastic, self-driven, and have excellent communication skills. You are eager to learn and work on an innovative breeding concept that triggers your creativity. You are pragmatic but willing to test out new ideas.

 

  • Msc or PhD in the field of agronomy or crop science (or related fields)
  • Proven expertise in crop management practices; preferably in potatoes
  • Practical experience in agriculture and on field trials
  • Solid basis in general crop genetics and physiology
  • Proven ability to initiate novel projects
  • Experience with research databases and statistics package R
  • Proven record keeping, data management and reporting expertise
  • Professional communication in English; Dutch would be an asset  
  • Dutch or European Driver’s license
  • Willingness and ability to occasionally travel (ca. 20 %)
