Working under the direction of the Senior Breeder, develop and improve Sugarbeet varieties according to specific goals. Provide leadership and guidance to breeding and field staff in support of projects to optimize the breeding activities for North America with an emphasis on data collection and organization for the breeding and product management team.


Essential job functions:

  • Plan and maintain databases.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver training of seasonal and full-time employees for the various operations of the breeding activities.
  • Provide technical support for the flowering observation and lead team in recording observation plot data.
  • Participate in hand crossing activities.
  • Collect, validate, analyze, and manage data from proprietary and/or Official Variety Trials, disease and insect nurseries and greenhouse trials at the various company locations.
  • Utilize KWS proprietary software for data collection and management.
  • Cross-train with other research staff to maintain workflow.
  • Provide work direction to staff, the field crew and temporary labor including but not limited to assigning tasks, organizing work, prioritizing projects, measuring quality, and ensuring safety.
  • Participate in sampling which includes collecting plant leaf tissue for molecular marker analysis.
  • Perform employee evaluations and conduct annual employee supervisor dialogue reviews.
  • Ensure Company handbook, Rules, Guidelines and Procedures and safety policies are followed and personal protective equipment is used correctly.
  • Occasionally travel and/or drive on behalf of the business.
  • Meet attendance requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required qualifications:

  • Associates Degree or equivalent in a related field and/or experience in agriculture, crop production, agronomy, greenhouse and/or plant science or similar.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Demonstrated strong computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office and aptitude for database organization.
  • Ability to work variable hours including occasional weekends as required by the business
  • Ability to work independently and within a team with flexibility
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational and communication skills with consistent attention to detail.


Preferred qualifications:

  • Supervisory experience


Working environment:

  • Perform indoor and occasionally outdoor work in variable conditions including heat, cold, dust, wind and rain. Greenhouse and occasionally field environments with exposure to pollen and handling chemicals. Occasional overnight travel as needed, some out of state.

The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
