We are seeking at the earliest opportunity an Assistant Breeder (m/f/d) for a seed multiplication and support function in the winter barley hybrid breeding team on a permanent and full-time basis. The position can optionally be located in the cereals breeding team of KWS-Lochow GmbH (Wetze or Wohlde, Germany) or KWS-Momont (Mons en Pévèle, France)

 

Your tasks:

  • Planning and performing seed multiplication programs and variety maintenance trials to develop pre-basic/basic and certified seed
  • Coordination and organization of seed productions, production certifications and management of quality assurance activities (grow-outs and molecular marker tests)
  • Communication and collaboration in an international team of researchers, breeders and exchange with sales department
  • Planning of staff allocation, instruction and guidance during crop maintenance, harvest and handling of seed
  • Practical breeding work including scoring and selection in seed multiplications as well as planting, maintenance and rogueing, harvesting, seed cleaning and seed preparation
  • Data management

 

Your profile:

  • Master University degree in Natural Sciences, Plant Breeding, Genetics or Agronomy
  • Ideally, practical experience of a few years in the field of cereal seed multiplication and agronomy as well as good knowledge in applied plant and cereal breeding, understanding quantitative genetics and molecular marker information
  • Good computer skills and experience using databases and managing large amounts of data
  • Good English skills (oral and written) an asset, written and oral German and/ or French preferred
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Competence to work independently and proactively in a cooperative manner in a multicultural team and multi-location environment
  • Willingness to grow with the development of the hybrid program with potential to take leadership
  • Drivers licence
  • Willingness to travel in Europe for approx. 40% of work, particularly during season peak time
