For KWS Saat SE & Co KGaA we are seeking from the 1st of July 2023 or later a Data Scientist (m/f/d) for our KWS Data Science Academy. The position is on a full-time basis, limited to two years. Most of your time you will be based at our headquarters’ location in Einbeck, assignment and projects will bring you to international locations of KWS.  
 
An individual training scheme will allow you a deep understanding of the whole value chain in plant breeding.  After a technical onboarding phase, you will conduct data science projects - while being connected to other data science experts within KWS.  Most of the projects are within different areas of Research and Product Development, but at least one assignment will bring you into one of our business units (marketing, sales, production, etc.). Assignment durations may vary from 2-9 months.  
 
We aim to train data scientists for KWS who – beyond sound knowledge and technical skills – come up with new ideas on digital tools adding value to our business. 
 
Your tasks: 

• Get deep insight and gain experience with the various types of data and data science activities within KWS group and along the whole value chain.
• Take over responsibility and deliver solutions for projects in the data science context, supervised by experienced colleagues.
• Work in interdisciplinary teams.
• Challenge the status quo and make proactive improvement proposals.
• Have an impact for the seed supply of farmers and primary production of the world.
• Sharpen the ability to making independent decisions to reach the joint goals. 

Your profile: 

• University degree (MSc or equivalent, also PhD possible) with a focus on data science related subjects.  
• Passion for data and ability to generate insights from big data.  
• Relevant qualifications: Either you have sound knowledge and experience on data science already and wish to apply that to plant breeding, or you are quite data-savvy with a background in agriculture / biology.  
• Fluent in R, Python, Julia or a similar language 
• Flexibility and openness to change teams, working groups, and country for the diverse assignments.  
• Team player to work in international teams, also under pressure. 
• Fluent in English

 
Your field of work: 
We generate huge amounts of data in the seed business. From whole-genome sequencing data to drone flights across our field to market data for our commercial products. We are looking for data science enthusiasts to generate new insights and business models from this data treasure.
