Job Purpose

Being part of the breeding department for Vegetables crops in Almeria, ensure the correct and efficient facilitation of the breeding as well as the logistic and M&S programs of KWS in the area or country by the adequate management of the resources in the owned and/or rented research farm(s) and their teams and equipment.

Within the breeding department, ensure the correct and efficient crop execution of the breeding as well potentially other trials/seed productions, by adequate management of the resources in the research farm(s) with its teams and equipment.


Major Accountabilities


Coordination and management of the facilitation of R&D

  • Adapt the farm facilities and the needed personnel (quantity and quality) to the immediate, midterm and long-term needs of the supported groups
  • Coordinate and be responsible for the execution and planning of the crop management at appropriate level
  • Provide facilities, technical support and personnel where needed according to an approved plan
  • Be part of organising rental agreements, permits etc related to the farm
  • Chair weekly meeting for discussion work plan of all departments, after this create a work plan for the farm and share it with the foreman for execution


Monitoring and management of the people involved in crop management on the farm(s).

  • Manage, direct and coordinate the personnel within the farm team, after approval of the Lead of Breeding and in cooperation with HR
  • Management and coaching of the farm personnel (either direct, or through Farm Foremen). , including appraisal, training and development, and career planning by using HR instruments, guidelines, procedures and advise in order to select and maintain competent employees and assure the quality of the service provided
  • Monitoring the processes around hiring temporary personnel in line with the planning
  • Monitoring health- and safety-aspects on all the working places in the farm
  • Maintain company culture and high level of motivation in team


Monitoring and execution of the operational farm budget for the area or country.

  • Monitor and monthly forecast of the farm costs and investments together with Lead Breeding
  • Adjustment of budgets by previsions.
  • Adapt the budget to the real and specific situations.
  • Organise the purchase of material in line with agreed plan.



 Monitoring and execution of the investments within the farm budget for the area or country

  • Orientation on the market for technical developments concerning GH and farm equipment
  • Coordinate the major investments in GH and farm buildings
  • Compile the yearly breeding investment budgets
  • Compile the yearly budget for the farms in line with approved plans
  • Purchase of investments in line with investment plan
  • Adjustment of investment budgets by previsions.
  • Adapt the investment budget to the real and specific situations.



Contribute to the (global) knowledge and expertise in farm management

  • participate in the exchange of knowledge with other farm managers globally
  • Improve knowledge on crop management to local teams outside crop management

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Agronomist (at least BSc level)
  • Specialization in horticulture techniques and operational management.
  • Management training.
  • Good level of English.
  • Experience in managing teams
