It is a strategic goal of KWS to establish a significant position in the field of vegetable seeds in the long run. For this purpose, the company is making step-by-step investments in the years to come. First step was the acquisition of Pop Vriend Seeds last June.  Now we are ready to start building our own vegetable breeding programs in Spain (tomato, pepper, cucumber, melon and watermelon).
Are you looking for a UNIQUE opportunity to set up your own breeding program and team from scratch? Then come and join our team in Almeria. The contract is open ended and full time.


Your tasks:


  • You set up, develop and manage a brand new breeding program.
  • You use, innovate and optimize breeding schemes by using state-of-the-art breeding technologies for the development and selection of high-quality commercial successful varieties.
  • You (co)operate with internal groups of breeding, research, commercial and production...
  • You bring your ideas to and support scientific research projects.
  • Set up, develop and manage, support and direct a breeding team.


Your profile:


  • You hold a PhD or MSc degree with a focus on plant breeding.
  • Min. 5 years’ experience in a vegetable breeding program...
  • You have gained good knowledge in quantitative genetics, plant pathology, breeding methodology and the vegetable market.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) and preferably good working knowledge of Spanish.
  • The ability to work (assessment, selection) under field conditions is common ground for you.
  • You are known to be a strong communicator and a team player person with excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • You have the ability/aim to work in an international team of breeders and scientists.
  • You have the willingness and flexibility for business trips.
