It is a strategic goal of KWS to establish a significant position in the field of vegetable seeds in the long run. For this purpose, the company is making step-by-step investments in the years to come. First step was the acquisition of Pop Vriend Seeds last June. Now we are ready to start building our own vegetable breeding programs in Spain.

Are you looking for a unique opportunity to set up your own breeding program and team from scratch? Then come and join our team in Almeria. The contract is open ended and full time.


Your tasks:


  • You set up, develop and manage a brand new breeding program.
  • You use, innovate and optimize breeding schemes by using state-of-the-art breeding technologies for the development and selection of high-quality commercial successful varieties.
  • You (co)operate with internal groups of breeding, research, commercial and production.
  • You bring your ideas to and support scientific research projects.
  • Set up, develop and manage, support and direct a breeding team.


Knowledge, skills and experience:


  • MSc/PhD in plant breeding or genetics.
  • In depth working knowledge of horticulture, agronomy, genetics, pathology, physiology and molecular genetics.
  • Minimum two years of experience in plant breeding.
  • Experience in management, team playing, organization and planning.
  • Computer skills (data management, management information systems, databases, spread sheets).
  • Language skills: English (must) and preferably the local language.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Communication skills
  • (International) travel: app. 10-25%
