We are looking for an Agricultural Research Technician and in this position, you will support the research activities for sugar beet seed developments. You will assist with the overall management of research plots and develop operational knowledge in the area of seed research. The position is located in Kimberly, ID.

The Senior Station Technician oversees greenhouse and field trial activities including planting, irrigation, pest control, ratings, record keeping, and harvest. Supervises and trains full time employees and temporary workers to maintain accurate records and adhere to quality standards and protocols which may include regulated material. Understands all equipment and devices utilized in tasks and directs problem solving in the field. Supervises, manages, trains, and mentors while working alongside full time staff.
  

Essential job Functions:

  • Supervise and train full-time and part-time and temporary workers to accomplish tasks directly given by project leads.
  • Make recommendations or suggestions regarding personnel matters in matters of hiring, firing, advancement, promotion or any other change of status of employees. Conduct Employee Supervisor Dialog with direct reports.
  • Responsible for using independent judgment to supervise the creation and execution of work plans for plant material to ensure setup and planting arrangement is done accurately.
  • Organize, direct and apply pesticides to sites as needed.
  • Operate the required proprietary software for data collection.
  • Oversee field and greenhouse trial agronomics.
  • Direct and operate planting and harvest equipment including proprietary technology and equipment in the greenhouse and field.
  • Coordinate the schedules for full time, part time and temporary workers.
  • Ensure completion of detailed records of all activities, which include regulatory records using established methodologies.
  • Responsible for scheduling equipment and vehicle maintenance and repairs.
  • Ensure employees abide by the Company handbook, Rules, Guidelines and Procedures and safety policies are followed and personal protective equipment is used correctly.
  • Travel and/or drive on behalf of the business.
  • Work variable hours as needed; meet attendance requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required qualifications:

  • Associates Degree and two or more years of experience in specific tasks being conducted by the stations, or a combination of education and experience reflecting advanced knowledge in plant research and science typical of the tasks conducted at agricultural research stations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with the various groups and prioritize tasks for the best efficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and complete projects working directly with project leads or managers.
  • Willingness to learn and implement new technologies within the group.
  • Ability to work variable hours as needed.
  • Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving history.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team with flexibility.
  • Have or be able to obtain Pesticide Applicator License within 6 months of hire.
  • Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or higher, or equivalent in a related field and/or 2 years’ experience in agriculture, crop production, general farming, landscaping, greenhouse or similar reflecting advanced knowledge and experience typical of the tasks conducted at research stations
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor direct reports.
  • Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (drone) experience.
  • Bilingual skills
  • Experience working with greenhouse and/or field agronomics.

 

Working environment:
Perform outdoor and indoor work in variable conditions including heat, cold, dust wind and rain. Field environments with exposure to pollen and handling chemicals. Occasional overnight travel as needed, some out of state. Must wear required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as needed.
