At KWS Momont Recherche, we are looking to recruit at the earliest opportunity a Barley Breeder for a permanent, full-time position based on our multi-crop station in Mons-en-Pévèle, France.

You will be responsible for KWS‘ 6-row winter barley malting program and develop new commercial varieties for all relevant core markets across Europe, with a main focus on France.   


Your main responsibilities:

  • Maintain a competitive 6-row winter barley breeding program with clear focus on variety development, including budget and organizational responsibility

  • Work collaboratively with KWS’ Hybrid Barley Breeding, Barley Breeding and Research teams to ensure full use of existing resources and knowledge exchange

  • Closely collaborate with commercial teams for product development and market introduction

  • Breed resource smart and use newest technologies available to further develop the current breeding program

  • Manage a breeding team and ensure continues development of your team members

  • Work closely with all relevant stakeholders on the station in Mons-en-Pévèle and across the entire KWS Group


Your profile:

  • You have a degree (PhD preferred) in plant breeding, genetics, or related field

  •  You bring 5-10 years of professional experience in variety development and breeding crops, preferably breeding barley with involvement in the malting industry, or hybrid crop breeding

  • You have in-depth knowledge and understanding of quantitative genetics, molecular and field breeding, hybrid breeding, trait introgression, data management and handling, and statistics

  • Your entrepreneurial spirit, enthusiasm for innovation and willingness to collaborate across cultures and disciplines will help you being successful in this position

  • You are an opportunity-driven self-starter with an agile mindset and can drive change

  • You will need excellent interpersonal and communication skills along with fluent English to navigate within our international organization. Being fluent in French is a great asset.

  • Your organizational and management skills will be important for your team members development
