As part of our growth strategy and our plans, we are looking for a Breeder - Melon (m/f/d), for KWS Vegetables. This is a full-time, permanent position based at our station in Murcia Region.  

It is a strategic goal of KWS to establish a significant position in the field of vegetable seeds in the long run. For this purpose, the company is making step-by-step investments in the years to come. Your tasks:

• Develop and manage this new breeding programme
• You use, innovate and optimise breeding schemes by using state-of-the-art breeding technologies for the development and selection of high-quality commercial successful varieties.
• You cooperate with internal groups of breeding, research, product development and production.
• You bring your ideas and support scientific research projects.
• Manage, direct, and coordinate activities for competent employees and ensure an efficient and effective functioning breeding team
• To manage and execute the increase and maintenance of basic Stock Seed and/or Production departments in order to ensure the availability of the quantity and quality of basic stock seeds.

Your profile:

• You hold a PhD or master’s degree with a focus on plant breeding.
• Min. 5 years experience in a vegetable breeding programme
• You have gained good knowledge in quantitative genetics, plant pathology, breeding methodology and the vegetable market
• Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required for the position and preferably good working knowledge of Spanish
• The ability to work (assessment, selection) under field conditions is common ground for you. 
• You have the willingness and flexibility for business trips
• You are known to be a strong communicator and a team player person with excellent organisational and analytical skills.
• You have the ability to work in an international team of breeders and scientists
