KWS is currently looking for an Agricultural Research Technician to join our Ogden, UT seed production team. The seed production team works throughout Northern Utah. The Agricultural Research Technician will assist in all aspects of seed production including planting, plot maintenance, pest control, rogueing, and harvesting. Detailed record keeping and the ability to adhere to quality standards is essential. As a growing station, opportunities to work in seed processing, seed treatment, and other aspects of seed production may exist. A successful candidate will have the ability to work as team member but also the ability to work independently and manage time efficiently. This is a permanent job, on a full-time basis in Ogden, UT.
Essential Job Functions:
- Work in research field plots to complete tasks such as planting, weeding, pest control, rogueing, and harvest during the growing season.
- Supervise and train summer interns on daily tasks
- Prepare fields for planting: making beds, spreading dry fertilizer, installing drip tape
- Organize and sort plant material, following detailed planting maps to ensure accurate planting
- Operate small research farm equipment such as utility tractors, research combine, water pumps, and pesticide applicator.
- Troubleshoot irrigation and field equipment
- Maintain detailed field records, including records for regulatory compliance
- Mix and apply pesticides in accordance to label as needed
- Some computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Apps, use proprietary software for data collection
- Ensure Compnay Handbook, Rules, Guidelines and Procedures, and Safety Policies are followed and personal protective equipment is used correctly
- Travel and/or drive on behalf of the company
Required Qualifications:
- One or more years of experience in agriculture, greenhouse, landscaping, or plot research
- Ability to work variable hours as needed, specificaly during peak season
- Valid Driver's License and acceptable driving history
- Ability to work indepdently and within a team
- Computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in related field
- Two or more years of experience in agriculture, crop production, or general farming
- Demonstrated ability to work with various groups and prioritize tasks for best efficiency
- Demonstrated ability to suprervise and complete projects working with cross-functional groups
- Willing to obatin Pesticide Applicator License within 3 months of hire
- Experience working with regulated material
- Supervisory experience
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Perform outdoor and indoor work in variable conditions including heat, cold, dust wind and rain. Field environments with exposure to pollen and handling chemicals. Occasional overnight travel as needed, some out of state. Must wear required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as needed.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
