Interested in becoming a valued team member at our production facility in Othello, WA USA for the #1 sugarbeet seed brand for growers in North America? We currently have an exciting opportunity as Agricultural Supervisor.

This position will oversee and direct agricultural activities in Othello, WA to ensure high yielding, pure seed productions while utilizing resources effectively and efficiently. Ensure workers follow established procedures for planting, transplanting and harvesting crops.

  

Essential Job Functions:

  • Hire, train and supervise Betaseed employees and plan, coordinate and direct their activities; provide mentorship, leadership and exercise final decision-making.
  • Locate, secure, and pin field isolations for planting seed/transplants.
  • Establish and maintain a working relationship with seed growers ensuring grower and Betaseed expectations are mutually understood including communication of contract requirements.
  • Accurately direct activities surrounding transplant isolations completing maps and SAP information accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Create field maps of all isolation following standard operation procedures.
  • Plan and manage daily operations and business administration, maintain records in SAP and create reports as needed.
  • Confirm correct quantities, identification numbers and planting locations in SAP and other programs as needed.
  • Monitor and track field activities throughout the season and accurately complete all paperwork timely.
  • Manage the transplanting and harvesting of seed production fields.
  • Develop and improve cultural field practices including but not limited to field preparation/maintenance and conducting replicated field trials to improve plant health and seed quality.
  • Manage experimental hybrids ensuring high yield production.
  • Direct application of pesticide solutions to crops and adhere to local and federal regulations regarding pesticide storage, application and disposal.
  • Conduct Employee Supervisor Dialogues annually with direct reports.
  • Ensure Company handbook, Rules, Guidelines, Procedures and safety policies are followed and personal protective equipment is used correctly.
  • Travel and/or drive on behalf of the business.
  • Meet attendance requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or comparable with concentration in agriculture or related field
  • 2+ years’ experience in agriculture.
  • Crop management experience.
  • Strong technical skills and SAP experience.
  • Commercial Pesticide Consultant’s License.
  • Valid driver’s license.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in agriculture.
  • Demonstrated experience operating, loading and driving a loaded trailer.

Working Environment:

Must wear required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as needed. Work in high and precarious places and able to cover multiple areas including staircases safely and quickly. Able to work in varied environmental conditions (loud, hot, cold, dusty, damp, etc.). Flexibility to work rotating shifts as needed (including weekend, night shift, and holidays). Ability to work individually and within a team setting. Travel could exceed 30,000/year, which will involve driving a vehicle and travel to other production areas 3 to 4 weeks per year, which will involve over nights.

The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
