We are looking for a dynamic, innovation focused Group Lead of Genome Editing Research. The full-time position is located at the KWS Gateway Research Center in St Louis, MO. You will lead a multi-national research team working at the interface of basic and applied research in different crops. You will be responsible for the team strategy and the development, implementation, and application of genome editing technologies according to KWS´s business needs.

 

What you can expect to do:

  • Lead an international & multidisciplinary research team of scientists and research associates through two management levels at two locations (USA and Germany).
  • Connect the dots between cell biology, molecular biology, protein biochemistry, and lab automatization to design innovative approaches.
  • Develop efficient & competitive genome editing protocols with high impact for product development; hand over robust routines to our service teams.
  • Manage resources and budgets.
  • Promote a culture of continuous innovation and individual learning.
  • Foster a can-do mentality, team-oriented mindset, and cross-functional cooperation.
  • Maintain an open and stimulating working atmosphere, support the professional and personal development of team members.

 

Bring in your strengths:

  • PhD or other higher qualification in biology or related sciences plus multi-years’ experience in industry and / or academia.
  • Distinct leadership experience of research teams.
  • Strong business orientation; good understanding of legal, IP, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, challenge, and steer multidisciplinary research projects.
  • Proven track record of own innovations, incl. IP.
  • Own hands-on working experience in plant cell and molecular biology.
  • Proven track record of experience in Genome Editing
  • Connection to a usable international network of leading scientists.
  • Proficient English language skills.
  • Willingness to travel internationally.
