We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our quality management team in Tangent, OR. The focus of the Applied Technology Supervisor is to investigate, identify, and implement data driven improvements at all stages with the goal of improving product quality and process efficiency.  Perform statistical analysis, maintain existing models, computer code, interfaces and machine learning systems, innovate new data driven solutions.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Monitor and report on seed quality related processing problems and propose solutions 
  • Define and run experiments to improve quality, process flows, SOPs, efficiency, throughput
  • Support the training of production/QC staff on in-line QA checks, equipment, processing, operations
  • Effectively communicate and work with multiple departments
  • Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques
  • Identify valuable data sources, implement, and automate collection processes
  • Processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis of structured and unstructured data
  • Doing ad-hoc analysis and presenting results in a clear manner using data visualization techniques
  • Analyze large amounts of information to discover trends and patterns
  • Work with stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging company data to drive business solutions
  • Propose solutions and strategies to business challenges
  • Monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy
  • Occasionally travel and/or drive and/or operate a forklift on behalf of the business 
  • Meet attendance requirements
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in quantitative field
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently lead a small team
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Able to become forklift certified
  • Experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets
  • Experience using SQL to query databases.
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, etc.) and experience with applications
  • A drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques
  • Experience visualizing/presenting data for stakeholders using: ggplot, seaborn, matplotlib etc.
  • Analytical mind and business acumen
  • Strong math skills (e.g. statistics, algebra)
  • Problem-solving aptitude
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills for coordinating across teams

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with computer vision systems
  • Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks
  • Master’s degree in related field
  • Experience with Keras and Tensorflow or Pytorch
  • Experience with seed quality, seed processing equipment and QA within processes

 

Working Environment:

  • Must wear required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
  • High Mobility- able to cover multiple areas including staircases safely and quickly and able to bend/twist
  • Able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. using safe lifting strategies
  • Able to work in varied environmental conditions (loud, hot, cold, dusty, damp, etc.)
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts as needed (including weekend, night shift, and holidays) and provide second level support

The employee must frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
