KWS Momont Recherche belongs to KWS group, which is one of the leading plant breeding company in the world. In order to expand our hybrid wheat breeding program and our breeding teams in Allonnes (close to Chartres / France), we are looking for an Assistant Maintenance Breeder (m/f). The position will be unlimited and full-time. 

Together with the Breeder, the Assistant Breeder will design the maintenance breeding process in order to support the hybrid wheat breeding program and to contribute to the creation of competitive hybrid wheat varieties with cost efficient production. The Assistant Maintenance Breeder will assist the Breeder in all steps of the maintenance breeding process and will be able to replace the Breeder for a short to midterm period regarding maintenance activities.

Main responsibilities:

• Ensure maintenance breeding including line maintenance breeding, conversion program and hybrid seed production in order to provide the right quantity and quality of seeds for all activities of the hybrid wheat breeding program. 
• Design and evaluate with the Breeder the short and medium-term maintenance plan, the production plan, and the associated quality controls.
• Design, plan and analyze autonomously maintenance breeding nurseries and their results using tools made available in interaction with the Breeding Technology team and expertise from other teams.
• Organize and monitor COGS trials in close collaboration with the Production teams in France and Germany, in order to identify/deploy new production systems enabling production of wheat hybrids in a cost-effective way.
• Implement all necessary processes for the registration of hybrid wheat varieties in France.
• Contribute to optimize maintenance breeding tasks and hybrid production thanks to new and innovative tools (seed sorting technologies, predictive tools…).
• Organize and coordinate genotyping activities with the lab in Einbeck (sampling, sending, analyzing and cascading the results for maintenance breeding decisions) according to the genotyping planning.
• Participate in the scoring, purification, selection, and harvesting of conservative selection nurseries, hybrid productions, advanced selection lines, and lines from the Pre-breeding program.
• Ensure compliance with and application of hygiene and safety rules.

Your profile:

• You have an MSc or PhD in plant breeding or plant production.
• Good understanding of agronomy of cereals and crop management.
• 3-5 years of experience in maintenance breeding.
• Good observation and analysis skills, rigor, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work with different information and data management systems.
• Team spirit and good communication skills.
• Leadership ability in task management and small team management.
• Flexibility and ability to adapt to periods of high activity (spring and summer).
• Willingness to travel in France and abroad.
• Fluent in French and B2 level in English.
